With Beaufort County Council’s approval on Monday night, Beaufort County is now one step closer to creating a park that will be an environmental hub for local conservation activities. This 25 acre passive park located on Lady’s Island, purchased with funds from the Rural and Critical Land Preservation Program, will truly be an oasis amidst development and an asset to the community.
The renovated Butler Marine building will include office space for the Friends of Crystal Lake, Soil and Water Conservation District, and Beaufort County Open Land Trust as well as classroom areas and a pavilion. The building will also include “green” features like solar panels, LED lighting, and closed-cell foam insulation. The park also features a boardwalk, picturesque lake, and is home to alligators, wading birds, and many other types of wildlife.
The building renovations should be complete by Fall.
